The CIO often plays the role of quiet strategy maker in the C-suite. These executives take on duties far beyond ensuring a company's technology works, they're taking on the business decisions and pushing innovation from the CIO office.
Crain's Detroit Business is launching the CIO Awards, a recognition of the top technology executives in metro Detroit. It is open to the top corporate executive at any company providing strategy related to technology, or an outside contractor acting as CIO for a corporation.
Winners will be chosen on a criteria of reducing cost, driving revenue and mitigating risk.

Crain's Cool Places to Work awards return this year as Cool Places to Work in Michigan, reflecting the expansion of the program to businesses in the entire state.
Crain's is working with Best Companies Group of Harrisburg, Pa., to manage the program. In addition to an employer questionnaire, Best Companies will survey employees of participating companies. The combined, weighted results will determine who qualifies for Cool Places designation.
Crain's Detroit Business will feature the recognized companies in the Nov. 5 issue and celebrate their success at an event in December at Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak.
