About Nate
I'm a multimedia reporter for Crain's Detroit Business. I also cover Southeast Michigan's restaurant industry. My coworkers have labeled me a food snob but I digress. I like to think of myself as having high expectations. My favorite places to eat are rarely the fanciest or trendiest. I usually end up in the independently owned, sparsely decorated joints serving the best food in the city.

B. Nektar Meadery follows up Zombie Killer with killer India pale ale

05/02/12 The guys over at B. Nektar Meadery in Ferndale have done it again. Founders Brad Dahlhofer and Paul Zimmerman ...more »

Rick Snyder signed Senate Bill 874 late last week, making it easier both for entrepreneurs looking to acquire a liquor license in the city of Detroit and for the Detroit City Council, which was put in charge of approving each liquor license application in the city. The bill alleviates the need for liquor license transfers and sales to be approved by the local governing body for cities with populations less than 750,000. Now, ...more »

You know those cool 20 in their 20s photos? They were taken on my cell phone

04/05/12 It really doesn't matter what kind of camera equipment you have, anyone can be a better-than-decent photographer these days. All you need to know are the basic elements of good photography: Follow the rule of thirds, fill the frame, look for interesting angles and don't backlight a subject. But a decent smartphone helps. About a month before this year's ...more »
